Sunday Night - Big plans for the week

Kindergirl told me tonight that "Tomorrow morning I am going I'm going into my special place in my closet and turn on my little light so I can make a picture of God."

She also had these thoughts:

"View blog"

"Hey Dad, who Narnia"

"Kinder girl and GradDad"

"DJ"

KinderGirl and GradDad's Great Eduventures Entry #1

Hello All,

Welcome to my Daughter's and my one year "Eduventure" through Kindergarten and Grad School together. We have much to learn from each other, and look forward to it continuing in our future installment of "GraderGirl and GradDad's Great Eduventures" at http://gradergirlgraddad.blogspot.com.

Abraham Lincoln is quoted as saying: "Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe." I say, give me six years to have my child learn all the basics of A, B, C's and 1, 2, 3's, and I'll take ALL six years to teach them how to learn, be happy with themselves and get along with others - even if they don't fully master the alphabet as soon as the Jones's child does.

I'm so proud of KinderGirl! She's a bright (firstly in spirit, of course) and has a healthy curiosity about her that is so refreshing. As you see in the following image, She did have the proper credentials and paperwork in order to be ready for Kindergarten - makes me cringe as it makes me remember what it took for me to get into Grad school for my MPA program ;-)

She was so ready to get started in "real" school, and not just all the "Pre-" kind of things she enjoyed at the local YMCA (wonderful people) - she especially enjoyed carrying her backpack around - I tried to tell her that she's going to hauling those around for another 16 years or more, so don't get used to hangin' it on one shoulder too much, or you'll get bad posture like your old man:

Albert Einstein is quoted as saying: "It is, in fact, nothing short of a miracle that the modern methods of instruction have not entirely strangled the holy curiosity of inquiry."

KinderGirl asks a lot of good questions - all questions are answered, many times with the age old Parental sound byte: "I Don't Know, Dear."

That's ok. If it were not for always hitting the "I Don't Know" or "I'm Wrong" walls, we would have never reached the Moon, let alone have future hero's and heroines of inquiry who accomplish the seemingly impossible. Learning how to maintain resiliency after coming off these walls over and over again is key...

Alvin Toffler said "The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn."

Joan Elizabeth Miller Higginbotham is an American engineer and a former NASA astronaut. She flew aboard Space Shuttle Discovery mission STS-116 as a mission specialist.

There are many quotes that inspire, and this first posting in our little blog has more than it's fair share. KinderGirl and GradDad are simply bursting with things to share, and quotes sometimes are more like a picture that says a thousand words in just a short few.

One amazing quote makes "out of the mouth of babes" come to mind and reminds us that we are here to learn from our Children as well. Anne Frank said "Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands."

Enough said for now... See You Next Post!
